A few weeks ago I pled guilty to an Operating While Visibly Impaired in the city of Clinton Township. I tried to go to see my girlfriend and her family in Canada and they would not let me in. Is there anything that I can do??? This OWI is killing my relationship and not being able to get into Canada is so stupid. The Canadian customs officer said that I had to turn around. It was so embarrassing not only for myself but for my girlfriend. Is this just Canada or can this happen everywhere???? This is crazy they can just deny access to Canada for a stupid drunk driving!!!!

This is a great question. Many clients that we represent here at Canu Torrice Law run into this issue after their case has been adjudicated. Ultimately, the decision to allow a person into a different country lies with that government.
In your case you pled guilty to Operating While Visibly Impaired in Clinton Township. Even though this occurred in Clinton Township it is still abstracted to your criminal history. When you go to the border of any country and request entry they will check your criminal history and may not let you in like in your case.
The good news is that we can help! Here at Canu Torrice Law we have immigration attorneys that can file the proper documents to allow you to gain access again. These documents must be filed correctly or the country you are requesting entry into may continue to deny you.
Call our office at any time at the number below to discuss the exact procedure that needs to be completed so that you do not get turned away at the border of Canada again.
