I was pulled over by a Wayne County Sheriff coming back from Detroit Lions game. I wasn’t drunk driving or anything (although I should have been drunk because the Lions SUCK), but my Michigan license was suspended because I forgot to pay a traffic ticket for running a red light in Troy.
Will this charge result in some sort of additional suspension of my Michigan driver’s license even if I go pay that ticket in Troy tomorrow? What are the consequences against my Michigan drivers license for getting this driving with a suspensed license charge in Detroit? Desperately need driver’s license lawyers advice.
Nice question! Good information for everyone. We’re actually discussing this same thing
Thank you for your question. The Michigan driver’s license lawyers at Canu Torrice Law can help you.
Driving while on a suspended or revoked driver’s license (DWLS/DWLR) in Michigan is a misdemeanor offense, which in addition to the possibility of jail time, probation, fines and costs, and 2 points on your diving record, also carries with it some stiff penalties from the Michigan Secretary of State ($500 per year for 2 years = $1,000.00 for any DWLS/DWLR conviction) in driver’s responsibility fees!
ALthough you need to call our office for a free consultation so we can get more information, based on your question it seems like your license is simply suspended because of your unpaid traffic ticket in Troy, Michigan. Once you clear that driver’s license suspension by paying whatever fines and fees are owed to the Troy court, your Michgan driver’s license should be reinstated again! Unless your driver’s license is currently revoked in Michigan for drunk driving/OWI/DUI or other such driving related convictions, than the charge alone shouldn’t result in an additional suspension of your driver’s license.
