<description>Thank you for your Michigan suspended driver’s license question on CTZ Law’s free legal blog at www.AllLegalMatters.com.

In short, you would be wise to hire a attorney for your Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) charge in the 37th Judicial District Court for Warren, Michigan, especially if this is your DWLS 2nd offense.

Many defendants mistakenly believe that driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license in Michigan is merely a “traffic ticket” but this is incorrect. In Michigan, driving on a suspended or revoked license (DWLS / DWLR) is a misdemeanor offense under Michigan law that also carries 2 points on your driving record. For a first offense driving on a suspended driver’s license DWLS / DWLR, the penalties are possible imprisonment in the county jail for up to 93 days and/or a fine of not more than $500.00, or both, plus court costs (which vary from court to court and many times equal or exceed the maximum fine).

However, in your case you are facing more serious penalties and a 2nd offender for driving with a suspended license, and as driving while license suspended or revoked 2nd offense DWLS / DWLR 2nd subjects you to imprisonment of up to 1 year in jail, and/or a fine of not more than $1,000.00, or both, plus court costs.

Additionally, as with any suspended or revoked license conviction in Michigan you, if you are convicted you will also be subject to another $1,000 Michigan Secretary of State Driver&#039;s Responsibility Fee ($500 a year for 2 consecutive years). See link to Secretary of State Driver’s Responsibility Fees:

http://www.michigan.gov/driverresponsibility/0,1607,7-213-32166---,00.html

Finally, depending on the reasons for your suspended Michigan driver’s license (i.e., e.g., 2 or more drunk driving / DUI / OWI convictions) there is also a possibility of the Secretary of State imposing of an additional period of suspension or revocation on your Michigan Driver’s License. For example, even if a DWLS / DWLR charge is reduced to a less serious offense that abstracts to your driving record, like No Operators License on Person (No Ops as it is frequently called) or even a simple speeding ticket, the Michigan Secretary of State will still &quot;impose an additional like period of suspension or revocation.&quot; Every time a moving violation is abstracted to your driving record the Michigan Secretary of State will push the eligibility date for your driver’s license appeal process farther into the future.

Therefore, unless you retain a Michigan criminal defense attorney who is not only well versed in the driver&#039;s license laws for Michigan, but also familiar with the prosecutors and Judges in the 37th Judicial District Court in Warren, Michigan, you are going to face a potentially serious sentence, which may include jail time up to a year, plus thousands of dollars in fines, costs and fees.

Fortunately, at CTZ Law our criminal and driver’s license attorneys are in the Warren court frequently, if not several times in a given week. I honestly believe there are no better attorneys to handle this suspended drivers license 2nd offense charge in Warren Michigan and that we are the best law firm in Michigan to handle suspended or revoked DWLS DWLR driver’s license cases.
Call CTZ Law today to schedule a free consultation with one of our Michigan driver’s license lawyers to further discuss your driving while license suspended DWLS charge in Warren, Michigan.
